#Neknominate your way forward

Well I’ll be tugged two ways from stupid. I never thought human stupidity could advance so well, especially when one considers that we live in the supposed ‘Age of Information’. Clearly the information is much more warped than we realized when things like this start trending on social media.

#Neknominate looks like it’s taking on the world and trying to make itself the next twerking trend, maybe even get itself in the world’s dictionary but for real though, and not just on the internet’s ‘dictionary’.

The whole thing is simple enough I guess, drink large quantities of alcohol and do something stupid [maybe even both at the same time, because why not… right?] and then nominate another friend, acquaintance, etc. to go forth and do the same. No instruction manual, so easy for all.

Simplicity, is it really always a good thing?

Of course, the thing I always loved about instruction manuals was that they always seem to come with that tiny printed ‘warnings’ stamped somewhere.

Everyone with a functioning brain cell would know what the wording meant or even that ever-so-popular hazard sign stood for and I can’t help but wonder, maybe if these guys had been given that tiny print they wouldn’t be chugging with the angels right now?

But then that’s just assumption. People tend to pass a brief glance over those kinds of signs and carry on with their lives and stupid actions, so even if the words were in bold and the familiar sign all polished – who says the same outcome wouldn’t have occurred?

Still, I can’t help but marvel at the levels of deranged man is beginning to show. Were the lessons of planking not enough?

The trend even has its own Facebook page, though is that really a surprise? I mean, what doesn't have a Facebook page nowadays??

‘It’s not a crime to get drunk’

I'm sorry, but what? Have I been misled all this time, with regards to ‘drinking age’ law and whatnot?
But then I guess the wording ‘getting drunk’ can be seen as a nice loophole, if you wanted to be specific in the eyes of the ‘sauced’ individual. After all, if you've already shot the gun what harm could come from emptying the clip, am I right?

I guess the Facebook page does shed some hope as you read the few growing voices speaking against the stupid act. I just wish mankind didn't have that annoying little fault of wanting to do the things we’re told not to, even more. Because let’s be honest, that’s where it heads off to with that kind of response.

Personally, I'm with the other way of ending the stupid trend by making it into something not-so-stupid. For example, take Brent Lindequ who received the challenge and then proceeded to show the world the finger by showing others that maybe not all brain cells are lost.

Its times like this, I am proud to call this country home. A place where maybe human beings can be seen as not so much like a total lost cause. In fact, not just this country but also the human race seems just a bit more bright and lovable when individuals like this take something driven by peer pressure and turn it into something so brilliant and PRODUCTIVE.

What makes it even more hopeful is when more take up the challenge and make it a statement.

I am faintly reminded of the movie ‘Pay it Forward’ and suddenly you can’t help but wonder if maybe it’s not just the Sci-Fi movies that are becoming a reality with talking cars and space travel, but also the movies that made you shed a tear or five.

One thing is for sure though, if one man can take this:
And make it into this:
Then the human race actually has a chance at some kind of future where we aren’t all killing each other off.

I’d say ‘give that man a Bells’ but I think maybe a Humanitarian Award would be something more worthy of his existence.
